The Singapore Motor Show 2016 is over. Still contemplating on which car to buy? We narrow down your selections by picking out five vital new models worth burning your pocket for.
1) Audi A4
Audi will be firing their salvo in the competitive family saloon segment with the launch of their all-new A4 in the first quarter of 2016. The car will make its local debut at the 2016 Singapore Motor Show, and will come with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 150bhp to put it in a highly-competitive position against its fellow German rivals. Expect plenty of technological advances, premium quality interiors, improved space, and enhanced drivability and efficiency thanks to innovative weight-saving measures.
2) Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Arguably the most important car to be launched this year and set for a new model change. The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class gets its global unveil at the Detroit Motor Show in late January and a Singapore launch is due second half of 2016. This model’s styling mimics its fellow saloon siblings – C-Class and S-Class. The interior takes a huge step over the outgoing model, boasting a more luxurious feel and the latest technology. Expect the E-Class to be a hit as always, with its large following of loyal customers ready to plonk down money for the latest generation of Merc’s venerable saloon.
3) Hyundai Elantra
Always known for its great value, the new Hyundai Elantra is set to compete in the fiercely-contested family saloon segment, further propelling the brand to the mainstream front. Building upon the great strides the Korean brand has made in recent years, the new Elantra will bring even more party tricks to the table: a new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 128bhp, ensuring plenty of oomph to outperform many of its major rivals, while still qualifying it for a Cat A COE.
4) Mazda CX-3
The compact crossover SUV market is a booming one, and almost every mainstream manufacturer is looking to grab a slice of this lucrative pie. Mazda’s sharply-designed new CX-3, aims to steal the thunder away from the popular Honda HR-V. Engine variants for Singapore are yet to be confirmed, but possibilities include a 1.3-litre SkyActiv-G turbocharged unit, as well as a 2.0-litre petrol. Expect to see the CX-3 on our roads by the middle of this year.
5) Toyota Prius
Better known as the automotive beacon for the environmentally-conscious, the Toyota Prius enters its fourth-generation and is appealing to a wider audience. Toyota claims that the landmark hybrid has been reengineered with sportier styling, a more entertaining drive, and much better quality than its predecessor. They hope that it will shed its image as a dull and boring car for eco-weenies, although the underlying drivetrain featuring a 1.8-litre petrol engine mated to an electric motor is carried over. Expect the new Prius go on sale shortly after the Singapore Motor Show 2016.
