Revisiting the GoBear x Milelion Miles Masterclass and its essential tips
Just like your holidays, the GoBear x Milelion Miles Masterclass might seem like a fleeting memory. But such memories are here to stay, especially when it involves hearty laughs intermixed with eureka moments as you learn valuable travel hacks from the travel experts.
The sessions by the Mileilon team, together with Mileslife and Cardcow, were as insightful as you might have expected. Each session tackled the biggest questions you have about KrisFlyer, Asia Miles, hotel hacks and many more travel hacks to enhance your journey.
Getting air miles is easier than you think
One of the most direct ways to get air miles is through your credit card spend. But it’s not just any credit cards.
Choosing the right credit card is about going through a thought process and building a card portfolio based on your spending habits.
If anything, the Credit Card Miles Primer session at the Miles Masterclass has shown how you can redeem a business class ticket to Tokyo within two years by boost your points gathering through specialised spend.
GoBear is your best friend when it comes to finding the right credit cards to get air miles. With a comprehensive comparison that shows you how many miles you’ll get per dollar spent, this is an essential tool to figure out which credit card you should sign up for.
Here’s a tip: our promo with American Express runs until 23 April, which will net you up to 10,000 KrisFlyer miles upon card approval and first spend. After which, you are getting up to 1.2 KrisFlyer miles per dollar spent worldwide, and this goes up to 2 miles per dollar during June and December.
On top of that, there are frequent flyer programs that lets you purchase miles at a huge discount rate. These miles can also be used for its partner airlines. Here’s a hint - check out Alaskan Mileage Plan.
How to spend and stretch your air miles
You might have a good understanding of which credit cards give you the best spend to mile ratio. Maybe, you have a decent amount of air miles to prepare for a holiday. But, it’s about how you spend those miles, rather than how many miles you have.
Stretch your air miles with stopovers. Instead of redeeming two tickets to two different destinations, you can potentially save thousands of miles by making one of the destinations a stopover.
Can’t decide if you should take that trip? Instead of hoping that everything goes smoothly, you can use an award hold method. In this case, booking a flight that’s on waitlist, followed by another which is available, will trigger the second flight to be placed on hold and pending your confirmation. This gives you time to consider your plans and cancel both flights if you are unable to travel during that period.
Flying and staying in style
The premise of the Miles Masterclass is to travel in style. With the essential tips to acquire and spend your miles wisely, the final step is to find a comfortable hotel to stay in. Again, travelling in style does not equate to spending more. This applies to hotels too, which was covered in the Hotel Hacks session.
Likewise, hotels also come with their own loyalty programs, such as Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and Hilton Honors. The benefits from each hotel group varies, from free breakfast and room upgrades, to reward points that can be used for your next visit.
But here’s something unknown to many - hotel groups will issue status matches to compete with rivals. As its name implies, it’ll match the status you receive from another hotel. On top of that, hotels also have status challenges that let you accelerate your status upgrades, based on the number of nights you stay in group’s hotels per calendar year.
A wonderful Miles Masterclass, with more to come!
Looking back at how participants were able to return from the sessions with not only answers for themselves, but more questions for the travel experts, we have to say the sessions were definitely fruitful.
Couple that with a hearty lunch to get you energised and ready for three sessions of travel tips and awesome goodies that include our GoBear ez-link card, and we can see why happy faces were all around.
Not forgetting, there were the lucky ones who won Samsonite luggages courtesy of American Express, together with miles from Mileslife, Plaza Premium Lounge passes and a portable speaker.
