Best Long Weekends in Malaysia in 2020
Despite being a country with one of the highest number of public holidays in Asia (we average about 50 altogether!), Malaysians are still some of the most vacation-deprived employees in the region.
The issue is that while we’ve got all these public holidays, we're not utilising the leave we're entitled to - which makes long weekends all the more desirable to stretch our well-deserved days off!
According to the 2018 Expedia Vacation Deprivation study, Malaysians have an average of 16 days of leave a year, but on average, we aren’t using up 4 of those days.
On top of that, the study also found that 64% Malaysians cancel their vacations due to work while 28% still check work-related emails while on vacation. Hello burnout!

Maybe you're in a situation where you feel your employer will be unimpressed if you take those extra few days off, or maybe you really struggle to find the time to fit in a holiday.
Whatever it may be, it's always a good idea to give yourself a break every now and then.

Wondering how many days you're entitled to? This number varies from employer to employer, but by law, here's the breakdown of the minimum days you get:
- Eight days for every 12 months of continuous service with the same employer if you've been employed for a period of less than two years
- 12 days for every 12 months of continuous service with the same employer if you've been employed for a period of more than two years, but less than five years
- 16 days for every 12 months of continuous service with the same employer if you've been employed for a period of five years or more
And now for the fun part, here's how to get the most out of your annual leave with a breakdown of the best long weekends coming up in 2020.

Everyone deserves a break once in a while for their own wellbeing. Start planning that trip with your loved ones.
Just remember to buckle up with travel insurance!
